The playing field is a little clearer after the distribution of Sean Crowe's surplus of 8,816. Paul Murphy (SPBP) received 3,444 transfers from Crowe, moving him into a more stable position with 7,921. Paul Murphy and Sandra Fay (SPBP) together received just under half of Crowe's transfers. After a lengthy wait, Sean Crowe was deemed elected on the first count in DSW, retaining his seat. He described the win as a "huge endorsement for change". Crowe received 20,077 votes (29.7% first preference) in Dublin South West, smashing the quota of 11,261. His surplus of 8,816 is now being distributed. Expected to take some time. Sean Crowe (SF) is set to retain his seat, receiving 29.6 per cent of the vote, according to tallies. Crowe has just arrived at the count centre here in Citywest to a round of applause. Talk now is where Crowe's transfers will go, with gains believed to be made for left parties.
DSW – 90 per cent of boxes tallied
Sean Crowe (SF) remains in the lead on 29.5%. Followed by Brophy (FG) 12.2%, Lahart (FF) 8.3%, Duffy (GP) 7.2%, Murphy (SPBP) 6.6%, Zappone (Ind) 5.6%, Ahern (Lab) 5.5%. Not much between Fianna Fail candidates O'Donovan and O'Connor who at this point are tallied at 5.1% and 4.8% respectively.
